Junior Elyse Mead recorded her 1,000th career kill Thursday night, highlighting West Noble’s varsity volleyball victory over visiting Westview. After missing the first eight matches of the season, Mead delivered 20 kills and 10 digs to help the Chargers win 25-9, 25-13, 24-26, 25-10. West Noble controlled the opening two sets before Westview edged the Chargers in the third. The Chargers responded with a commanding fourth set to close out the victory on a memorable night for Mead and her teammates. Freshman Lydia Mead added 11 kills and 10 digs, while senior Reagan Eash contributed seven kills and junior Ava DeLong finished with five. junior Ella Limerick directed the offense with 35 assists and added eight digs. Izzy Beers led the serving attack with three aces, while Limerick and Darcy Ritchie each recorded two. Coach Alison Mead praised the team’s effort on both sides of the net and its ability to bounce back from a third-set lull to finish strong. She also credited the student section and community for creating an outstanding atmosphere as Elyse reached her milestone. “The energy in the gym from the student section and community support was one of the best ever,” Mead noted. “Thank you to all who support this team.” The Chargers are now 9-1 on the season. The West Noble junior varsity also earned a victory, winning two closely contested sets over Westview, 25-23, 25-22. Allie Stabler powered the JV offense with 11 kills, followed by Amenthis Shaffer with five and Janie Sitts with four. Lauren Coy handed out 17 assists. Brooklyn Barden anchored the defense with 16 digs, while Stabler and Claire Shearer each added four. Sarai Villa led the Chargers with three aces, and Barden and Coy contributed two apiece. The JV (7-1) heads to Carroll for their invitational on Saturday, while the varsity returns home Tuesday to face Tippecanoe Valley. Congratulations to Elyse on 1,000 career kills, and Go Chargers!
