The West Noble volleyball team continued its outstanding season Tuesday night, turning in a balanced offensive and defensive performance to sweep NorthWood on the road, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16. The victory improved the Chargers to 14-1 and extended their winning streak after entering the match at 13-1. NorthWood came into Tuesday having won five consecutive matches, making West Noble's convincing three-set victory even more impressive. Elyse Mead led a balanced West Noble attack with 16 kills. Lydia Mead added eight kills, while Reagan Eash contributed seven, giving the Chargers 31 kills from those three hitters alone. The distribution was a major strength, something Coach Mead specifically pointed to after the match. The setting combination of Ella Limerick and Kaylin Slone kept NorthWood's defense from keying on one hitter. Ella handed out 25 assists, while Kaylin added nine. Defensively, Lydia Mead recorded 15 digs to lead the Chargers. Addy Burns added 11 digs, while Darcy Ritchie contributed 10, giving West Noble three players in double figures. That balance in the back row helped the Chargers limit NorthWood's opportunities to put together extended scoring runs. West Noble also received contributions at the net and from the service line. Lydia Mead and Reagan Eash each recorded one block. Elyse Mead, Addy Burns and Izzy Beers each recorded an ace as the Chargers continued to apply pressure throughout the match. Coach Mead praised the work of West Noble's setters and the team's ability to remain composed, noting that the setters did a great job spreading the offense. She also highlighted the Chargers' mental toughness, particularly their response after facing some adversity during the third set. That ability to finish was evident in the final score. Rather than allowing NorthWood to extend the match, West Noble closed out the Panthers 25-16 to complete its second consecutive straight-set victory. The Chargers had also swept Garrett in their previous match, 25-13, 25-18 and 25-22. At 14-1, West Noble now turns its attention back to NECC competition. The Chargers will host Central Noble on Thursday at West Noble. The West Noble junior varsity volleyball team came up short Tuesday night at NorthWood, falling to the Panthers in two sets, 25-17, 26-24. The match was played at NorthWood as part of Tuesday’s JV/varsity doubleheader. After NorthWood controlled much of the opening set, the Chargers responded with a much stronger performance in the second. West Noble pushed the Panthers beyond the normal 25-point finish before NorthWood eventually escaped with the 26-24 victory. The two-point margin showed a significant improvement from the eight-point difference in the opening set. Dayra Hernandez led the West Noble attack with 7 kills, while Claire Shearer added 5 kills and Allie Stabler finished with 2. Setter Lauren Coy directed the Charger offense and recorded 15 assists. Defensively, West Noble received a strong effort from several players. Allie Stabler led the Chargers with 10 digs, followed by Aliyea Stauffer with 8 and Amenthis Shaffer with 5. Hernandez also contributed from the service line with 2 aces. The loss snapped some recent momentum for the JV Chargers, who had defeated Lakeland and Garrett in their previous two matches.
