The West Noble boys soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss Thursday night as Westview rallied late before defeating the Chargers in penalty kicks, 4-3. West Noble controlled much of the match and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind two goals from Leo Lopez. The Chargers carried that advantage deep into the second half and appeared to be on their way to another victory. Westview, however, mounted a late comeback. The Warriors scored their first goal with approximately seven minutes remaining and then found the equalizer with around two minutes left, sending the match into overtime tied 2-2. Neither team was able to break through during the two overtime periods, forcing the match to be decided by penalty kicks. Westview ultimately prevailed 4-3 in the shootout. Despite the difficult finish, West Noble moves forward with an impressive 13-3-1 record and now turns its attention to postseason play. The Chargers will face Garrett next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Bethany Christian Sectional. Following Thursday's match, West Noble also celebrated its 12 seniors and their families, recognizing the group for its dedication and contributions to the Charger soccer program. Thank you to the seniors and their families for everything they have given to West Noble Soccer. Good luck to the Chargers on Thursday as they begin sectional play!
