LIGONIER, IN – The West Noble Chargers continued their outstanding football season Friday night, using a dominant rushing attack and a strong defensive performance to defeat the Jimtown Jimmies 50-15 in the IHSAA Sectional Semifinals. The victory improves West Noble's record to an impressive 10-1 and sends the Chargers to Angola next Friday night to battle the Hornets for the sectional championship. After falling behind 7-0 early in the first quarter, the Chargers responded with 35 unanswered points to take complete control of the contest. West Noble's offense was led by another tremendous performance from Xy'Mire Barnes-Bridges, who rushed for 223 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns. Barnes-Bridges averaged an impressive 8.9 yards per carry, including a 36-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that helped put the game out of reach. The Chargers also received an outstanding performance from Brogan Parks, who scored three rushing touchdowns on runs of 1, 1 and 11 yards. Parks finished with 28 yards on six carries and proved to be a valuable weapon around the goal line. Quarterback Jackson Christlieb added 90 rushing yards on 14 carries, including a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Christlieb also completed three passes for 41 yards. Caleb Saggars led the Charger receivers with a 24-yard reception, while Brayden Limerick and Trevor Martin added catches of 12 and 5 yards, respectively. As a team, West Noble piled up 354 rushing yards on 46 carries, averaging an impressive 7.7 yards per attempt. The Chargers finished with 395 yards of total offense and 21 first downs. After Jimtown opened the scoring, Parks tied the contest with a 1-yard touchdown run with just five seconds remaining in the first quarter. Parks added another 1-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter before Barnes-Bridges scored from eight yards out to give West Noble a 21-7 halftime advantage. The Chargers wasted little time extending their lead in the second half. Barnes-Bridges returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, giving West Noble a 28-7 lead. He later broke loose for his 36-yard touchdown run to push the advantage to 35-7. Jimtown answered with a touchdown and two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 35-15, but the Chargers quickly regained control. Christlieb scored on a 12-yard run early in the fourth quarter, and Dawson Harris connected with Brayden Limerick for the two-point conversion. Parks capped the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run to complete the 50-15 victory. While the Charger offense put up impressive numbers, the West Noble defense deserves plenty of recognition for another outstanding effort. Jimtown was limited to just 82 rushing yards on 35 attempts, an average of only 2.3 yards per carry. The Jimmies managed just 11 first downs and were held scoreless in both the second and fourth quarters. Ethan Yates recorded an interception for the Chargers, while Coleman Lundy recovered a Jimtown fumble. West Noble's defensive unit continued to make big plays and prevent the Jimmies from establishing a consistent running game. Special teams also played a major role in the victory. In addition to Barnes-Bridges' electrifying kickoff return, senior kicker Marco Macias converted all five of his extra-point attempts and delivered six touchbacks on eight kickoffs, consistently forcing Jimtown to begin drives deep in its own territory. The victory marks another important step in what has already been a memorable season for West Noble. The Chargers captured the NECC Big School Division championship earlier this fall and have now won 10 of their first 11 games. Next up is a familiar opponent with a sectional championship on the line. West Noble will travel to Angola next Friday night to face the Hornets in the IHSAA Sectional Championship. The Chargers defeated Angola 14-7 earlier this season in a hard-fought conference showdown, rallying from a halftime deficit to secure the NECC Big School Division title. This time, the stakes will be even higher as West Noble looks to bring home a sectional championship and continue its outstanding postseason run. Congratulations to Coach Monte Mawhorter, his coaching staff, and the entire Charger football team on another tremendous victory! Let's pack the stands at Angola Friday night and support our Chargers as they battle for a sectional championship! WEST IS BEST! GO CHARGERS!
