Mike Deak June 6, 2025 We've got ourselves a state medalist! A week after surprising even himself in finishing second in the high jump at the Goshen Boys Track Regional, Dustin Richardson continued to raise the proverbial bar for himself. His bar is now raised to 6-7 and a fourth place finish after competing in Friday's IHSAA Boys Track State Finals! The West Noble junior, who finished at 6-7 a week ago only trailing Warsaw's Jordan Randall, set a personal record with his 6-7 finish at Goshen, a full three inches better than he had done all season. Going into the State Finals, Richardson was seeded sixth and in good position to let several contenders go before him, and potentially scratch out. He leaves Bloomington having hit 6-7 in back-to-back weeks on the two biggest stages of his career. Momentum going into Friday worked out for Richardson, who made 6-2 on his second try and 6-4 on his first try while much of the field started to eliminate themselves on misses. Richardson then hit 6-6, and soon 6-7, leaving him among just five competitors left and a guaranteed place on the state podium. Unable to hit 6-8, Richardson settled for fourth, but earning his first podium finish as a West Noble track athlete. To round out the competition, Randall, who was the only athlete to come into the state finals with a 7-foot make in the regional round, proved why he is currently one of the top jumpers in the country. Randall cleared 7-0 while Chesterton's Nolan Johnston could not advance past his 6-11 make, leaving Randall the state champion. Randall went after his personal record, 7-3.5, but couldn't get any of his three attempts over clean. https://live.timingmd.net/meets/54198
